Stoke Place Hotel is only thirty minutes away from the bustle of London and yet enjoys all the benefits of a rural English landscape. The three storey 'William and Mary' style house was built as a family home in 1690 by Patrick Lamb. Later, east and west wings were added to the building creating a substantial and impressive country house and the infamous talents of Capability Brown turned the surrounding grounds into a quintessential rural idyll.
The charms of Stoke Place weren't lost on Sir George Howard, equerry to Queen Charlotte, who bought the estate in 1764. His descendents called Stoke Place home for another 200 years. Then, the tenacity of the house's next owner, Richard William Vyse, ensured that the house and its grounds, in all their perfect glory, were protected from 'marauders and vagabonds'. The large red brick wall he constructed encircling the house and grounds is now a well-loved feature of the estate. You'll find that within its parameter Stoke Place still retains all those attributes that have caused generations to fall in love with it.
Total number of guest rooms: 29

We boast beautiful views from each and every lovingly decorated room across our grounds. The rooms are full of individual, quirky touches that give away our love of contemporary British design.
Garden Bar
No matter what the season, our comfortable bar offers casual comfort food. The bar is open late for residents and outside guests with great music and a relaxed and stylish atmosphere.
Lounge
The elegant lounge was once the formal drawing room of Stoke Place. The ornate surroundings; leather high-backed armchairs and a huge stone fireplace which crackles through the colder months makes for a comfortable but glamorous environment. Whether taking your time over afternoon tea, studying the morning editions or relaxing with a cocktail, the lounge is at the heart of Stoke Place's easy, stylish life.
Someone quite clever once said a garden is solace for the soul. Well, at Stoke Place we've enough gorgeous green space to make calm the most turbulent of souls. At the height of his fame, Capability Brown meticulously contrived the grounds surrounding Stoke Place in his characteristic style to give a sense of staged informality.
